You Asked For It! Starswirl Academy (Review of demo by JB3)
Spoiler: He rips the game aparts.
In my opinion he wasn't bashing the game and put some reasonable criticisms about it. I read this some time ago and I thought it was funny and great. Even though he doesn't enjoy the demo, I still can't wait for the full version.

So if anyone gonna read it and finds it offensive, don't take personally and don't send gross comments. Are we not decent human beings?
So for now, Happy New Year To Everybody!
That is my two cents, what you guys think?

Most of that 'review' is him just bashing on bronies. :< I'm fine reading negative reviews, as long as the criticism is valid, but it's quite obvious that he's being extremely biased. I mean he doesn't even *try* to hide that he dislikes bronies, and he's giving the game a negative review because of it.

Meh. The ''review'' was OK.
For one thing, this is a demo. Practically everything is a placeholder, and I'm pretty sure the dev team has acknowledged some, if not all, of the faults in the writing.
Ages?
The country in the game is totally fictional. Different countries have different amounts of time spent in school. Here, we're still studying by 18. I doubt that the age stuff hasn't been at least thought of.
The appearances of the ages?
Some girls are underdeveloped, like Robin. It's normal, she gets waaay too much exercise Outside of the game, I think she looks a little older. Perhaps it's just an issue with the sprite.
Annabelle and Rosalyn look legal.Tai looks less young and more Asian Tai's body could use some work, Polly looks 15, but a youthful appearance only adds to her energetic and bubbly personality.
...
Story?
This is a demo! -insert facepalm here-
I liked Tom's conflict. This part is just about differing opinions, but it's true. The guy is just so painfully normal that it could give the girls' back-stories more contrast, as I'm almost completely sure those are going to be very interesting (they're the main point of the project, after all).
He compared the beginning to Katawa Shoujo's beginning, but just because Hisao nearly died during the start doesn't change anything about the middle or ending. Imagine if the VN had skipped Iwanako's confession and gone straight to the hospital scene. No major differences here. It doesn't make the story any more or less satisfying in the end. Why? Because that opening was a minor detail that could have been taken out (but not necessarily replaced). Beginnings only give you a first impression, and those are almost always wrong. The game is going to be pretty long in the end, and, if you were going to judge it on a single play-through of the WHOLE thing, I doubt that you'd be focusing so heavily on the opening scene.
As for the characters, there isn't really any room for development, in 30 minutes. These girls are going to have some pretty long routes, and it'd be nearly impossible to write thaaaat much, with no flaws to guide you.
Tai is vaguely hinted to have flaws, and the only reason the others don't immediately show their own is not because the writers aren't taking them into consideration, but because they have such a small amount of screen time. They're not going to show us how annoying Polly can be until they're in a relationship, because if they did, it'd be hard to give Tom a reason to want to be in a relationship with her. Which kind of ruins your means of getting close to her, which is essentially the point of this game. (That gives me an idea of a visual novel where, instead of having ''romance'' options, you get to be someone's gay friend.)

Oh yeah. We saw it. It had a lot of hate. "I don't necessarily hate the show or fandom" is just a hand wave ("I'm not racist, but..."). Take away that and the last half of the review where he makes the game out to be some sort of underage sex simulator, and there's a few good points, but nothing that hasn't been said before. I'm still waiting for an outside perspective that doesn't start with "Bronies, amirite?"

This is the only review I've seen, if you'd call it that. >3> Even if it was a positive review, at this point, it wouldn't really be fair since it isn't even a full game yet.Rainbow Wavedash wrote:Oh yeah. Considering that's how it started out, it's hard to not bring it up. I've been trying to talk about it without it dominating the preview, and it's difficult without ignoring it completely (which would be a complete disservice to the game, in my opinion).

You can acknowledge something without being condescending.TheHockeyGamer wrote:Rainbow Wavedash wrote:I'm still waiting for an outside perspective that doesn't start with "Bronies, amirite?"

The whole "Tom needs more back story with a pinch more motivation" and "It shouldn't push you to think Tai is adorable 100 times" are good points.
Other than that, it's nonsense, especially the complaining that the sprites look underage. He obviously enjoyed Katawa Shoujo, did he complain about Emi's design too, or was he too enthralled with "Hideo's" back story?
